Beth Rubin Introduction
Beth Rubin is the Director of Distance Learning for the School for New
Learning. This video is an introduction to Wanted: The Best & the
Brightest, a course that addresses the ethical implications of various approaches to defining and measuring intelligence. Vickie Caliendo, a student in the course, had this to say about the value added by Dr. Rubin's introduction:
"In all the online classes I've taken at DePaul, I've never experienced the type of interaction with students as in this course. I'm sure the media introduction triggered the fire...It gives the student an illusion of being in a classroom setting...The student can hear the enthusiasm and excitement in the instructor's voice and becomes prepared for a great learning experience."
Dan Heiser Introduction
Dan Heiser is an Associate Professor of Management in the College of Commerce. This video serves as a brief bio and introduction for students who are enrolled in his Operations Management course.
UrbanPlan Showcase
Created for DePaul’s Real Estate Center, this mini-documentary showcases UrbanPlan, a cross-discipline planning competition sponsored by the Urban Land Institute. The video is used to introduce real estate students in the College of Commerce to the UrbanPlan project and encourage them to participate.
Video Casserole
This video highlights a medley of IDD’s latest video projects. These video “recipes” are made from scratch in our digital kitchen and served exclusively in DePaul's finest classrooms.
Text Revision Tool
This tool was created for Jim Sowerby, an adjunct professor in the College of Law. When teaching legal writing, Professor Sowerby found it challenging to show students that there isn’t always a single, ideal way of communicating an idea. The text revision tool allows users to quickly compare variations in short writing samples and recognize how small changes in word choice can have a big impact on a reader’s interpretation of the information being presented. While the version shown here contains mostly law-related examples, the content can be easily changed to improve students’ persuasive and creative writing skills in other disciplines.
Visual Phonics Tool
This tool was created for Dr. Beverly Trezek, an assistant professor in the School of Education. Dr. Trezek wanted an interactive tool to help students learn “visual phonics,” a series of gestures that correspond with specific phonetic sounds. This system is used to help students with hearing impairments and other learning disabilities improve their reading and pronunciation skills. To view a demonstration of this tool, contact your instructional design consultant.
